Heart from a Calf w/ Bulldog Syndrome- Wet Specimen

This heart was removed from an adorable chunk of a calf, with a known condition nicknamed, "a bulldog calf". This genetic disorder in cattle is also known as congenital bovine chondrodysplasia. The results are disproportionate bone growth, leading to a shortened spine and limbs, with a compressed body.

What was interesting, but I guess not shocking based on the anatomy of this calf that the heart was not located where it should have been. It was right under the surface of the chest, close to the middle.

The heart was formalin fixed, leached and slowly laddered up to 70% isopropyl alcohol.
